Quick rule: 1 cubic yard of mulch covers roughly 108 sq ft at 3 inches deep, or 162 sq ft at 2 inches deep. Here's how to actually measure your beds.
Length × width in feet. Don't worry about awkward shapes — round to the nearest reasonable rectangle. For a bed that's roughly 12 ft long and 4 ft wide, that's 48 sq ft.
Total all bed square footage. A typical Tampa Bay front yard has 200–400 sq ft of beds; a full landscape can have 600–1,000+.
Fresh beds: 3 inches. Refresh on existing mulch: 2 inches. HOA fresh-look standard: 3 inches at first install.
Total sq ft ÷ 108 (for 3 inches) = yards needed. Round up. Example: 400 sq ft ÷ 108 = 3.7 yards → order 4 yards.
